David Showers, CPO, president/owner of Orthotic Prosthetic Resources, began his career in Orthotics and Prosthetics in 1966 as an Orthopedic Appliance Specialist in the US Air Force. He achieved Certification in Orthotics in 1974 and in Prosthetics in 1976 from the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics, Inc. (ABC) and attained a B.S. degree in Health Care Services from Widener University. Mr. Showers has had extensive post-graduate training/specialized courses in orthotics-prosthetics, practice management, and leadership at regional and national seminars sponsored by the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA), the American Academy or Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP), and the International Society of Prosthetics-Orthotics (ISPO).
From 1980-1999 Mr. Showers was the Director of the Orthotics and Prosthetics Division of the Rehabilitation Department at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA and held faculty appointments at the University of Pennsylvania Health System as a Lecturer from 1980-92 and as a Clinical Associate from 1992-99. Mr. Showers has been an orthotic-prosthetic consultant for the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, PA. He is currently involved with O & P clinical practice 3 days per week and has been a private consultant in orthotics and prosthetics since 1985.
Mr. Showers has authored/co-authored numerous articles in various professional journals and publications. He has served as an ABC certification examiner in prosthetics and orthotics and has been an ABC facility appraiser/surveyor for the past 20 years. Mr. Showers was an ABC and AOPA Facility Representative for the Division of Orthotics and Prosthetics at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania from 1980-1999. He has lectured extensively at the University of Pennsylvania Health System and at various professional seminars and conferences.
Mr. Showers is a member of the AAOP - national and Pennsylvania chapters, the Lower Limb Prosthetic Society, and the ISPO.
